Aaron Marino of alpha m. discusses eating disorders and men. The fastest growing population diagnosed with anorexia nervosa is young men between 14 – 30 years old (20%).
Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by immoderate food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight. The trend is alarming as the increase of men diagnosed has been exponentially rising over the last 15-years. Treatment options for men are lacking in comparison to treatment for women.
Aaron also discusses body dysmorphic disorder, which is a mental illness in which a person can’t stop thinking about a flaw with his appearance that can be real or imagined. Body dysmorphic disorder has sometimes been called “imagined ugliness.” If you are struggling with calories, binging, purging- don’t be afraid to talk someone about it. Get treatment.
