Every single man needs an incredible pair of jeans in his wardrobe. They will be the most versatile pair of pants he owns because they can be dressed up & down and look badass. But, wearing the wrong pair can make a dude look like a dumbass.
What you do NOT want with your jeans
- Not wearing the right fit — whether straight, skinny, slim, standard, relaxed, athletic, boot cut, or other, the pair you select should compliment your body type. Keep in mind that standard is boring and basic. Try the slim first, doing the new jean bounce. You don’t want extra room in the crotch or puddling (bagging or bunching) the ankles. The options for the rise are standard, mid-rise, and low-rise. Most modern fit is mid-rise. Standard has extra fabric causing you to look shorter and your package to not be highlighted.
- Saggy butt — spicy senoritas check out dudes’ butts. Don’t go walking around like you have a load in your pants; make sure your pants are pulled up and not sliding down.
- Going beltless — you need a belt to keep your pants up, to finish your outfit, and to look sexy. I rock an Anson Belt, which stays super sexy and clean from the track system.
- Detailing on pockets — you do not want much (if any) bling or detailing on the pockets. Subtle is okay, but I recommend clean pockets from the GAP, Banana Republic, and J. Crew.
- Distressing — when distressing looks too artificial or manufactured, the jeans don’t look as sexy as a pair of denim that look ‘made by accident’ (aka a single knee slit)
- Only wearing blue jeans — gray and black denim look incredible and are perfect for combining with other denim jackets.
- Wrong wash or colored denim — white denim and lighter washes are for warmer months. Medium wash with light distressing is the most versatile casual pair of denim that you can wear year-round. Also, non-distressed blue jeans can be worn any season (great for dressing up). If you find a pair that you absolutely love, buy a back-up pair and save them for later.
