I normally don’t respond to critics, but recently a fitness influencer accused me of using steroids, TRT, and other performance-enhancing drugs to maintain my physique at 50 years old.
He’s wrong. I’ve never used any of those substances, and I wanted to address this because I don’t want guys thinking they need drugs to build an incredible body. I’ve worked out consistently since I was 12, and my physique is the result of nearly four decades of dedication, not shortcuts. My formula is simple:
- Consistency: I’ve exercised regularly for 38 years without taking extended breaks.
- Weight Training: I lift heavy, train hard, and focus on progressive overload.
- Nutrition: I eat a consistently healthy diet, prioritize protein, and enjoy occasional indulgences in moderation.
- Cardio: I run, walk, or do other cardiovascular exercise almost every day.
- Rest and Recovery: I prioritize eight to nine hours of quality sleep and give my muscles time to recover.
- Vitamins and Micronutrients: I watch for nutritional deficiencies and support my health with appropriate supplementation.
I’m not against testosterone replacement therapy when it’s medically necessary, but I am against healthy young men using it simply to get bigger or see faster results. Before considering hormone therapy, focus on improving your diet, sleep, exercise, and overall lifestyle.
I also want to emphasize that LOOKING healthy and actually BEING healthy are two different things. That’s why I regularly monitor my blood work, including testosterone, cholesterol, and cardiovascular health markers. I personally use Merrick Health for comprehensive testing and encourage guys to understand what’s happening inside their bodies.
Bottom line: Your health is your most valuable asset. You don’t need steroids, peptides, or testosterone to build an impressive physique. You need discipline, patience, consistency, and a commitment to taking care of yourself. Do the right things consistently over months, years, and decades, and you’ll be amazed at what’s possible!
