Buying a Watch on the Gray Market
There is nothing quite like a great watch where you love putting it on, looking at, and showing off. One of Alpha’s favorite purchases of all time is his Rolex Milgauss which took him 10 years to finally save up for.
In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro talks about how luxury watches drops in terms of value. Rolex, however, tends to hold its value more than other luxury brands. Sweet spots are out there, which Tristano talks about his top five.
Used and Vintage Luxury Watch Sweet Spots
- Have a look at mid-size watches – there’s a sophistication, elegance, and understated refinement with smaller watches. They’re cheaper than larger models, especially if you have smaller wrists. Prince William was famously given on by the late Princess Diana, and he’s a big guy. So, there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with the smaller pieces. Another example is Clark Gable. You have to be quite manly to wear a smaller watch. Tristano displays many deals including the Rolex Air King. You can get a Rolex for less than $2K
- Used Tudor watches – it’s the little brother of Rolex. Rolex makes most of the parts, but the inside is a little more affordable. Prices may vary. The brand is on the rise with the contemporary releases.
- Vintage Omegas – Geneve, De Ville, and Constellation namely. They’ll have a bit of patina, and wear but the prices are fantastic. There’s so much variety and always tons on the market. Go with a reputable seller.
- The Japanese market – you can find great deals and listings on watches shipped from Japan. Just keep in mind taxes and figure that into the price. You can find some sweet deals and immaculate pieces with reputable sellers
- Consider buying a quartz luxury piece – Rolex Oysterquartz and Omega Seamaster 300
